Jennifer Frederick Appointed Associate Provost for Academic Initiatives

Wednesday, June 22, 2022

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer Frederick as Associate Provost for Academic Initiatives.

Jenny is an expert in interdisciplinary and inclusive teaching practices in higher education and a widely respected university leader who has centered equity and inclusion in her many leadership roles. Since her appointment as a founding executive director of the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning in 2014, she has been instrumental in the Center’s creation and support of all aspects of student learning and faculty pedagogy. Her work has also included building the Faculty Teaching Initiatives team, the Academic Strategies Program, and Educational Program Assessment service, drawing on her skills in facilitating curricular innovation, mentor training, teaching center strategic planning, and inclusive teaching. Beyond Yale, Jenny served for many years as the principal investigator on an award from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to support a national STEM faculty development initiative, the Summer Institutes on Scientific Teaching.

We are fortunate to have Jenny as a champion of excellence in teaching and learning at Yale. We look forward to the expertise and leadership she will provide across her new portfolio, including partnering with Vice Provost for Academic Resources Lloyd Suttle on campus-wide academic support services, supporting the University Registrar’s Office, and continuing her work leading the Poorvu Center.

Sincerely,

Scott Strobel
Provost
