Announcement: Teaching Relief for Child-rearing

Wednesday, October 7, 2020

[Summary: All fulltime non-ladder instructional faculty are now eligible for teaching relief for child-rearing for one full semester.]

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the expansion of parental benefits offered to non-ladder instructional faculty at Yale.

All fulltime non-ladder instructional faculty who become new parents will be eligible for Teaching Relief for Child-rearing (TRC) for one full semester. They may take the TRC within one year of birth or adoption of their child.  All fulltime non-ladder instructional faculty members who became parents on or after July 1, 2020 will qualify for this new benefit.

The policy applies to faculty in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the professional schools except for the Schools of Medicine and Public Health. These two schools have their own separate policies.

I recognize this is a particularly challenging time for those who care for young children. I hope this new policy helps ease some the burdens faced by new faculty parents.

As always, I am grateful for your hard work and commitment to our university.

With best wishes,

Scott Strobel
