Dr. Stephanie Spangler serves as Vice Provost for Health Affairs and Academic Integrity. In this role, she promotes the health and health care of the campus community, provides support for various initiatives in the health professions schools, and fosters academic integrity by facilitating adherence to shared community standards and regulatory obligations.
In her Health Affairs role, she chairs the Board of University Health and provides provostial oversight of Yale Health (a health care delivery and financing organization that provides health care and health benefits to students, staff, and faculty). She has also participated in the recruitment of and provides ongoing support to leaders in the health-related professional schools.
In her Academic Integrity role, she oversees the implementation of policies and procedures pertaining to research misconduct and standards of faculty conduct and advises on matters related to conflicts of interest and commitment, enterprise risk management, and other university policies. As a standing member of the Labor-Management Policy Board’s management team, she participates in collective bargaining activities with the clerical and technical, service and maintenance, and postdoctoral unions.
Prior to joining the Office of the Provost, Dr. Spangler served as the Director of Yale Health. In the years since joining the Office of the Provost in 1995, she has had a variety of roles and responsibilities ranging from oversight of environmental health and safety, to service as the Institutional Official for animal care and use and human research protections programs and, later, as the University Title IX Coordinator. More recently, as the COVID-19 Coordinator, she oversaw the campus response to the pandemic. For her service to the university community during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Spangler received the Nathan Hale Award in 2022 and the Elga R. Wasserman Courage, Clarity, and Leadership Award in 2021.
Dr. Spangler holds BS and MD degrees from Brown University and completed her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale New Haven Hospital. In addition to her provostial appointment, she holds the appointment of Clinical Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences in the Yale School of Medicine.
