Senior Associate Provost, Research Compliance and Regulatory Affairs
Crista Brawley, PhD, CCRP, serves as Senior Associate Provost, Research Compliance & Regulatory Affairs. She leads key areas within university research administration, including offices responsible for managing the operational and compliance functions related to export controls, research integrity, research security, human research protections, use of animals in research, and research conflict of interest. Crista also develops strategies to bolster the effectiveness, transparency, and efficiency of a broad array of regulatory affairs, compliance, and research operations challenges.
As a Senior Associate Provost, Crista works closely with the Vice Provost for Research to ensure operational and compliance effectiveness of the research administration infrastructure. In this capacity, she oversees the compliance and regulatory affairs services that support faculty research across the university. She manages Yale’s rapidly expanding regulatory and compliance portfolio with a strong focus on faculty service, transparency, and efficiency. Crista serves as the Institutional Official for the Human Research Protection Program, which partners with the Yale Institutional Review Board (Yale IRB), as well as the animal care and use program, partnering with the IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee).
For the Office of Research Administration, Crista jointly oversees two units that support all of research administration: the Office of Research Enterprise Operations, which provides data analytics and operational support; and the Office of Research Compliance, which is responsible for Yale’s research compliance program and oversees the development of training, ensuring alignment with the university’s audit, risk, and compliance framework.
Crista brings more than 20 years of experience in research. She began her career as a basic scientist, transitioned into healthcare and research administration after her postdoctoral work, and has become a senior leader in research operations. She joined Yale in 2025.
Crista earned her PhD in Biochemistry, Cellular, and Molecular Biology from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is also a certified clinical research professional with the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SoCRA).
