Susan Gibbons serves as the Vice Provost for Collections & Scholarly Communication and Chief of Staff to the President. She is responsible for expanding and strengthening strategic collaboration across the university’s world-class collections and university press in service of the university’s core mission to create, disseminate, and preserve knowledge through research and teaching. In addition, she serves as Chief of Staff to President Maurie McInnis.
As Vice Provost, Susan’s portfolio of responsibilities includes the Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, the Paul Mellon Centre (London), Yale University Art Gallery, Yale Center for British Art, Yale Peabody Museum, Yale University Library, and Yale University Press (New Haven and London).
Prior, Susan served as Yale’s University Librarian from 2011 to 2020. Before joining Yale, she held library positions at the University of Rochester, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and Indiana University. She served on the board of the Association of Research Libraries from 2013-20 and as the board president in 2018-19, and was a member of the U.S. National Museum and Library Services Board from 2022-25.
Susan holds MLS and M.A. degrees in history from Indiana University, a professional MBA from the University of Massachusetts, and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Rochester.
