To: Certain Term-Limited Faculty Members; Deans
Dear Colleagues,
I write to announce a phased retirement plan for certain term-limited faculty members. This plan provides faculty who meet its eligibility requirements (as detailed below) the opportunity to elect phased retirement between April 1, 2023, and June 30, 2026, and to begin phased retirement between July 1, 2023, and July 1, 2026.
Retirement is a deeply personal decision that requires thoughtful consideration of many different factors, including personal finances and the impact on one’s daily life beyond a beloved profession. The university has designed this plan to help support faculty during these considerations and to reduce uncertainty through planning assistance. Eligible faculty members include active members of the faculty appointed to one of the following positions: professor on the clinical track in the School of Nursing, senior research scientist, senior research scholar, professor in the practice, professor adjunct, senior lecturer, senior lecturer II, senior lector II, and senior critic. To participate in the plan, faculty must be at least age 65 and have 15 or more years of continuous full-time faculty service.
If you are or will be eligible to participate in this plan, you will receive a separate package of materials in the mail. To explore different benefit options, please consult with a Retirement Benefits Counselor (203) 436-5193.
Thank you for your enduring contributions to our community of teachers and scholars at Yale. We recognize the potential complexity of this decision and are committed to helping you understand your options.
Sincerely,
Scott Strobel
Provost
