New University Title IX Coordinator

Wednesday, December 15, 2021
Dear Members of the University Community,

We write to share that Elizabeth Conklin, Associate Vice President for Equity, Accessibility, and Belonging, will begin as Yale’s new University Title IX Coordinator on January 1. She will assume this responsibility from Dr. Stephanie Spangler, who has provided a model of excellence in this role over the last ten years. Assistant Provost Jason Killheffer, Senior Deputy Title IX Coordinator since 2011, will continue to provide valuable leadership to Title IX programs under the direction of Ms. Conklin and will continue to work with Dr. Spangler on other academic integrity matters in his Assistant Provost’s role.

Yale is fully committed to creating and sustaining a university environment free from discrimination and harassment. Dr. Spangler’s leadership in this area—helping us further mutual respect and empowerment throughout our educational, working, and living environments—has been exemplary. In light of the impressive progress Ms. Conklin and her team have made in aligning and fortifying programs to address harassment and discrimination of all kinds (such as race, national original, religion, and disability), and given Dr. Spangler’s significant ongoing responsibilities in her roles as Vice Provost for Health Affairs & Academic Integrity and University COVID-19 Coordinator, Dr. Spangler suggested and we agreed that the beginning of the new year would present an optimal time for a leadership transition.

Please join us in thanking Dr. Spangler: for sharing her expertise, for her generous partnership, and for her countless contributions and abiding care for our community. Please also join us in welcoming Ms. Conklin into her new role, which will continue to include Belonging at Yale, Title VI, antiracism, and support for the discrimination and harassment resource coordinators, accessibility, and the LGBTQ community, in addition to her new Title IX responsibilities.

We look forward to further aligning and enhancing the university’s programs and resources. We also encourage all community members to avail themselves of the variety of resources and information on the Sexual Misconduct Response & Prevention and Discrimination and Harassment Concerns websites.

Sincerely,

Scott Strobel
Provost
