Jim Slattery assumed the role of associate provost for science & technology in November 2013. The team manages the science & technology portfolio which includes the central campus science departments, the School of Engineering & Applied Science, and the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, as well as various other institutes and programs. Additionally, the team collaborates on science strategy with the West Campus and the School of Medicine, on STEM education with the Yale College Dean’s Office, on research compliance issues with the Office of Research Administration, and partners with the Office of Facilities to carry out long-range planning and renovations of science buildings and laboratories.
Jim joined Yale in 2008 and has served as lead administrator and director, Finance and Administration for the Department of Cell Biology, as special assistant to the dean for research cores at the School of Medicine, and as the interim senior director for Faculty of Arts and Sciences and member of the Business Operations Leadership Team (BOLT). Prior to Yale he worked in the biotech/drug development sector initially managing a high-throughput research group and transitioning into strategic planning. He studied chemistry and holds a B.S. from the University of California, Davis, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Cornell University.
